No summer holidays for Energy Scouts in Bulgaria

After the first workshops in June, prospective Energy Scouts in Bulgaria are exploring the potential for saving energy and resources in their companies. This is also the case in Sofia at a logistics center of Kaufland, a retail company operating in seven European countries. A participant is measuring the refrigeration system to locate possible leaks. The young employees receive the measuring equipment and the know-how through the German-Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry as part of the project Young Energy Europe.

The Energy Scouts found that the refrigeration system was well maintained, but discovered saving potential in the case of the lighting system. As a result, the Energy Scouts discovered that cost savings and better light efficiency can be achieved by replacing fluorescent tubes with LED lighting. Together with the company’s Energy Manager, the next step is to calculate investment costs, running times and operating costs in order to convince the management of the current energy efficiency project.
