Energy Scouts enhance energy efficiency in Crete

Vassilis Sakas from the German-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce and Industry visited Energy Scouts from the tourism sector in Crete on July 18 and 19 in their companies and discussed the development of practical projects. In spring, the Energy Scouts completed a four-day training course with Young Energy Europe that enabled them to discover energy efficiency potentials in their work environment.

Despite peak tourist season in Crete, the Energy Scouts found the time to discuss and work on their energy efficiency project proposals. Most vacationers will not notice how much effort it takes to keep drinks cool, food warm, and lawns green. All scouts are bringing in their specific voctional expertise: cook Konstantin Aivaliotis from Arina Beach Resort as well as maintenance technicians Evengelos Kambourakis from Lyttos Beach and Charalambos Xenakis from Ikaros Resort & Spa Hotel. All three facilities of the SRESORTS Hotel Group are equipped with modern building technology (heat pumps, solar modules, etc.). The numerous installations in the objects offer the Energy Scouts many opportunities to save energy.

Energy Scouts Marinos Papadakis and Michael Pavlidis from the Village Heights Golf Resort also work in the Cretan tourism industry, the most important sector of the islands economy. Although the Hotel Village Heights is new and has up-to-date technical equipment, the Energy Scouts have already conceived a number of ideas on how to save energy. But good ideas alone do not makesuccessful projects. Therefore measuring, analyzing and collecting operational data for the development of their projects was the main focus of the Energy Scouts. We wish them a good season and are looking forward to the project presentations in September.
